Membership

IMG_5394aThe Shaker Figure Skating Club welcomes new members of all ages. Our goal is to foster the growth of each of our members and to provide programs that enhance our skaters’ skills, community, excellence, and overall enjoyment of the sport.

Home and Associate Club Memberships are open to skaters once they have passed USA Learn to Skate (“LTS”) Basic 5. It’s a big accomplishment. Congratulations! SFSC Members are part of an active community figure skating of athletes, friends, and families. Joining SFSC provides access to club rates for our practice ice and clinics at Thornton. Club Membership also opens doors for participation in our Aspire program, as well as to club sponsored workshops, on and off-ice training classes, group clinics, and club social activities throughout each skating season. SFSC Members also have opportunities to perform in USFS skating competitions and in several annual ice shows before audiences large and small.

See our About Us page for an overview of SFSC and its programs. Specific information about our Clinics, Events, Competitions Testing, and Club Program Schedule can be found throughout our website.

Our Board Members will be happy to help to orient you within the Sport or to the Club. We know it can be daunting to choose a path into the sport that aligns with your level, age, interests, and goals.

Please contact our Membership Chair, Angela Robinson, with any questions.

Safety Notes & Information for New Members:
As part of the application process, skaters will be asked to provide a US Figure Skating Membership Number as well as documentation that the skater has passed LTS Basic 5 in one of the following formats:

  • Official certificate of completion of Basic 5 signed by a Learn to Skate Director; or
  • Email from a Learn to Skate Director detailing proficiency of Basic 5 skills; or
  • If no documentation is available, please contact the SFSC Membership Chair Angela Robinson to arrange for an on-ice observation of the skater by a USFS official.

With safety in mind, our Ice Sessions have the following designations:

  • “Junior Club” Ice Sessions: These sessions are open to all skaters at all levels.
  • “Junior Club Only” Ice Sessions: These sessions are restricted to either Junior Club members and/or full Club Members who are Preliminary Moves or below.
  • “Club” Ice Sessions: These sessions are intended for skaters who have passed Pre-preliminary MITF and above. “Club” Ice sessions are open to all skaters above Basic 5. HOWEVER, for the safety of skaters and coaches, during “Club” Ice Sessions skaters who have passed Basic 5 but have not yet passed their Pre-preliminary MITF test must actively be in a lesson and within arm’s length of their coach at all times.
  • “Junior Club Members”: The few Club Members who have not yet passed Basic 5, but have been tested and authorized by the Board to hold club membership may only skate on “JUNIOR CLUB” & “JUNIOR CLUB ONLY” ice sessions and must actively be in a lesson and within arm’s length of their coach at all times.
